Fruit Smoothies

Getting started on a detox recipe plan can be difficult, and even those who have been at it for a while get a bit tired of the routine. A wonderful detox recipe for both newbies and veterans is the fruit smoothie.

Fruit smoothies are easy to make, provide a wide variety of flavor possibilities, and can be created in almost limitless combinations. The basic recipe for fruit smoothies consists of fresh fruit, combined with some form of dairy product or substitute (such as soy milk or honey) for thickness and flavor, as well as ice. Put them together in a blender, and mix them into the perfect thick, smooth consistency. That’s all there is too it!

Fruit smoothies can be effective detox recipes because for two reasons: what they contain and what they don’t. What they contain is a everything that fruit can bring to your diet: vitamins, mineral, nutrients, antioxidants and more. What they don’t contain is harsh chemicals, preservatives, or anything else you’re trying to flush out of your body by using a detox recipe in the first place.

However, it should be said that fruit smoothies can be effectively mixed with many supplements, such as whey protein powder, for those who need them. There can be great benefits to this, and in fact fruit smoothies can cover up the sometime distasteful flavors associated with supplements. This does tend to take the smoothie out of the realm of dexot recipe and into the world of workout supplements though.

As for the specific combinations of fruits, the sky is truly the limit. Some prefer the purity of a single fruit flavor all by itself, while some will go for the maximum number of fruits they squeeze into a blender – so try whatever pleases your taste buds. You’ll stick with your detox recipe longer if you get some pleasure out of it. Most fruit smoothie recipes include from two to four fruits. Some excellent combinations are those which combine a sweeter fruit with one that is more tart. Apple and banana are a classic combination. Pineapple and peach are another great example.

Although we’ve concentrated here on the fruit smoothie, don’t forget the possibilities of raw vegetables. On their own, or combined with fruits, they can offer many of the same general benefits as fruit smoothies, while adding variety to your detox recipe plan. Enjoy!

Another popular theme is the berry mixture. You can’t go wrong with a detox recipe that includes blueberry, blackberry, strawberry and raspberry…delicious!

Juice Fasting

A juice fast is a fairly extreme type of detox recipe, consisting solely of fruit and raw vegetable juices and water only.  Proponents of this method point to multiple benefits, which are said to include not only cleansing and weight loss, but more mystical or spiritual elements as well.

Fasting of course is an age old tradition, which has been practiced in most (if not all) of the world’s religions. Gandhi was well known as a proponent of fasting, which he believed improved the clarity of his mental processes – a benefit repeatedly claimed for this form of physical “housekeeping”.

Whether it’s the spiritual, mental or purely physical benefits that attract you to this particular family of detox recipes, you need to be careful, and only undertake a juice fast if you are healthy and strong. Furthermore, certain people should never try a juice fast. For a start, it should go without saying that pregnant or nursing women should absolutely never engage in a juice fast – in fact it would be a good rule for these women not to engage in any kind of detox recipe. You and your baby need too much nutrition. Consult your doctor before making any major dietary changes.

Other conditions also rule out a juice fast as your choice of detox recipe. If you have low blood sugar or diabetes, low blood pressure, immunity problems or infection, kidney or liver problems, eating disorders, anemia or underweight, or any major illness like cancer or epilepsy, you will need close medical supervision before attempting a fast or any other detox recipe. People with serious or chronic illnesses should not significantly alter their diet except on a doctor’s orders. Better safe than sorry.

If you are sufficiently healthy, and want to give it a try, keep in mind that there may be temporary side effects to this particular type of detox recipe. Lightheadedness, headaches, fatigue, dizziness and other symptoms can occur. If they re troublesome or begin to worsen, stop the detox immediately and seek emergency medical attention promptly. An additional warning: grapefruit and pomegranate juices should not be used in a juice fast, as they can interfere with medications.

Additional tips: eat a raw food diet for about a week before using a juice fast detox recipe. Try to scale back or eliminate meats and toxins like caffeine during this period.

When you’re ready, begin drinking 32 to 64 ounces or fruit and or vegetable juice per day, with plenty of water. Using a power juicer can considerably expand your options, and is highly recommended.  If an all-juice diet is too difficult, an altered version includes taking one meal a day. When you’re finished, go back to a regular diet gradually, not all at once.

Good luck, be careful, and enjoy your detox recipe!

Colon Detox

Looking for a good colon detox? Colon detox diets have become increasingly popular in recent years, and it’s easy to see why. With all the advances of modern life, we are also subject to all manner of pollution, toxins, pesticides and food additives, all of which may leave you feeling like you need to detox your colon.

A good, full body colon detox recipe leaves the body feeling lighter and unencumbered. This is because the colon cleanse detox rids the colon of the bloating, excess waste and impacted fecal matter that can build up in the colon over years of less than healthy eating. Ready for a good detox cleanse yet? We thought so.

There are many natural colon detox products on the market, in addition to recipes you can make yourself. Colonix is one such colon cleansing detox product, which boasts what they claim are 2000 positive testimonials. Dr. Natura, the company which manufactures Colonix, says their product can help with constipation, bloating, fatigue and skin problems, while giving you a flatter stomach. This may sound like a lot for a colon detox cleansing to accomplish, but their users do report excellent results.

Another popular colon detox cleanser is CleanStart, from a company called Nature’s Sunshine.  This is a 14-day colon detox diet, which consists of both capsules as well as colon detox drink packets, to be mixed with water. Users should be aware that CleanStart contains Cascara Sagrada, which should not be used for longer than 2 weeks maximum at a time. Also, though the product is an herbal colon detox, that doesn’t mean it is vegetarian or vegan: the capsules are made with gelatin, the common ingredient which is made from boiled animal parts.

The Dual Action Cleanse from Cellular Research is a kit which contains a colon cleaning detox, as well as a component called the “Total Body Purifier”. The company also sells a “Maximizer Kit” which includes such products as Energy Burst, Essential Health Oil, and Perfect Fiber. This company seems good at coming up with catchy names for colon cleanse and detox products, but the efficacy of their products is unknown. And given the number of infomercials they run for this product, it’s no wonder the price is rather steep.

So what’s the best colon detox? When it comes down to it, the best colon detox is the one that works for you. So go ahead: try them, and find your favorite colon detox.
